About
I still remember the feeling I had turning on the NES for the first time, a gift from my parents in a Christmas of my childhood. Until then, TV was something completely passive, while the NES made it interactive. It fascinated me immensely.
I would have liked to know more about how it worked, but at the time the information was practically non-existent, so I just played it. Not that it was a big problem, after all.
I also remember the first time I saw my neighbor’s Commodore 64 (how I envied him), and how amazed I was that an audio cassette could contain video games.
I realized that this console could be even more fun than the NES, as it had a keyboard where you could write anything.
I thought that all those keys had to serve some purpose, and I would have liked to learn more about that too. Unfortunately, I would have had to wait a few more years, as I never owned a Commodore 64 back then.
In 1997, my father finally bought a real computer, a glorious Pentium 133 with 16 MB of RAM.
The store that had assembled the PC for us had also installed some games, including Doom II.
Seeing Doom for the first time, after playing the NES for years, was something absolutely incredible.
But for me that machine wasn’t just video games. I became an avid reader of all the computer-themed magazines I could afford with my allowance. Usually, those magazines included CDs that allowed me to try new software and explore the potential of this new world.
I remember the first musical experiments made with FastTracker II and the first experiments with 3D graphics with an MS-DOS software whose name I don’t remember (sigh, but sooner or later I’ll find it).
found it, it’s called Imagine 3D
I had no idea how to program that machine, but one day, browsing randomly through the directories of the Windows 95 disk, in addition to discovering Weezer and Edie Brickell, I came across a strange program called QBasic. I don’t remember exactly what happened between that moment and the first working little program, probably a few days passed between one thing and another.
But this was a very important step for me. From then on, I never stopped.
With this blog, I want to talk about everything that excites me, I hope you like it.
